It is reported that the new 300mm silicon wafer fab will become the largest and most advanced factory of Shichuang Electronics, which mainly produces single crystal and polished and epitaxial wafers, and is expected to provide 600 jobs. Shichuang Electronics said that most of the investment will be made in 2022, so it is in the early stages of the project.

Story with Singapore

It is reported that the cooperation between Shichuang Electronics and Singapore has a long history.

As early as 1999, Siltronic started operating a 200mm silicon wafer fab in the JTC Tampines wafer fab park. In 2006, Siltronic added a second factory under the joint venture with Samsung Electronics to manufacture 300mm silicon ingots and wafers. According to reports at the time, the joint venture project was the first time that a semiconductor manufacturer had cooperated with a silicon wafer manufacturer. The alliance between.

According to data, Siltronic is headquartered in Munich, Germany, and is the world’s fourth-ranked semiconductor silicon wafer manufacturer. It was listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2015. Its main business is the research and development, production and sales of semiconductor silicon wafers. The main products include semiconductor silicon. Polished wafers, semiconductor silicon epitaxial wafers, etc.

It is reported that Siltronic has been engaged in semiconductor wafer business research and development since 1953. In 1998, it achieved trial production of 300mm semiconductor wafers. In 2004, the 300mm semiconductor wafer production line was put into production. The main products include 125-300mm semiconductor wafers in Asia and Europe. Both Japan and the United States have advanced silicon wafer production bases, and their wafers can be used in smartphones, computers, navigation equipment, and digital Display devices.

When was it acquired?

On October 22, Siltronic issued a temporary announcement stating that it is expected that the merger with Global Wafer may not be completed in this fiscal year.

Siltronic said that the merger with Global Wafer may be delayed due to the time-consuming discussion of the review by the relevant regulatory agencies. However, Siltronic also emphasized that Shuangfa will continue to conduct constructive discussions on the unfinished license terms.

However, Global Wafer is optimistic about this merger. Global Wafer said that despite the relatively complicated review process, it has made constructive progress with the competent authorities of various countries in the acquisition of Siltronic, and is committed to completing the acquisition by the end of 2021.

At present, the merger case has been reviewed and approved by the United States, Austria, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and other anti-monopoly authorities, and it has yet to be reviewed and approved by the anti-monopoly authorities in Germany, Japan and China.

On November 30, 2020, Global Wafer announced that it planned to acquire Siltronic publicly. After that, it raised the purchase price twice from 125 Euros per share to 145 Euros, and subsequently adjusted the acquisition ratio several times. In March 2021, Global Wafer announced that as of March 1, 2021, Global Wafer has acquired a 70.27% stake in Siltronic.

However, with the latest statements of both parties, the final acquisition time of the acquisition is still a mystery.
