The conference announced that the world’s first network-connected cloud-controlled high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone will start construction in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, and will be launched in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. In his video speech, Chen Jining pointed out that the construction of the world’s first network-connected cloud-controlled high-level autonomous driving demonstration area is to build an open platform for the R&D, verification, promotion and application of autonomous driving technology. Beijing’s high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone has two outstanding features. One is to promote innovation and accelerate the iteration of key technologies and accelerate the maturity of the industry; the other is to cultivate an industrial ecology. Big data, automobile manufacturing and other fields have driven upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain to accelerate the gathering, constantly incubate new market players, and cultivate a high-level autonomous driving industry ecosystem for L4 and above. We welcome more domestic and foreign enterprises to actively participate and work together to open up a new era of automobile industry development.

  

At present, domestic and foreign autonomous driving companies mainly adopt the intelligent technology route of single vehicle. Due to various influences, the intelligent technology route of single vehicle cannot realize the large-scale operation of L4 and above automatic driving vehicles in the short term. One is the lack of bicycle perception. Unable to achieve “beyond visual distance” and solve “visual blind spots”. Second, the high production cost is not enough to support the commercialized mass production of autonomous vehicles. Third, the long tail challenge is difficult to solve. Problems such as extreme scenarios need to be solved with a lot of tests and real scenarios, which are difficult to achieve in reality. Fourth, crowd intelligence planning cannot be coordinated. Bicycle intelligence cannot achieve optimal group traffic or regional traffic.

In recent years, my country has proposed a network-based autonomous driving technology route, which has gradually been widely recognized by the international community. In recent years, the European Union has released a roadmap for connected autonomous driving technology, and Michigan has begun to build the first connected autonomous driving corridor. Audi and other well-known OEMs have begun to deploy V2X vehicle-road collaboration-related functions on their products, and industry consensus has continued to build. However, in general, there are still many difficulties in the implementation of autonomous driving based on network connectivity: First, technically, key links such as high-reliability, low-latency communication technology, and fusion-sensing decision-making algorithms have not been fully resolved. Second, in terms of management, the decentralized and isolated management system does not match the needs of the integration of road digital facilities. Third, in terms of business model, the traditional government infrastructure model is unsustainable. Fourth, in terms of industrial advancement, no one company can conquer the world, and it is far from enough to support according to the law of traditional industry support.

After in-depth research, Beijing decided to build a high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone to accelerate the large-scale operation of L4 and above high-level autonomous driving. On the basis of supporting the continuous iteration and improvement of bicycle intelligence, Beijing will focus on building the world’s first network-connected cloud-controlled high-level autonomous driving demonstration area. Therefore, the high level of the Beijing Demonstration Zone has two meanings, that is, it includes high-level autonomous driving above L4, and it also means that cloud control is a high-level network connection. It can reduce vehicle-end costs and promote automotive product innovation and industrial transformation.

  

The demonstration area will be constructed with the whole area of ​​Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone (60 square kilometers) as the core. Open up the key links of technology and management of network-connected cloud-controlled autonomous driving, form a city-level engineering test platform, and realize the commercialization of a series of application scenarios and the promotion and application of a batch of intermediate products.

The construction of the demonstration area will adopt the method of “walking fast and improving iteratively”, with 3-6 months as an iterative cycle, constantly revising and improving the follow-up construction method and content, and gradually identifying the best configuration relationship between vehicles, roads and clouds. According to the steps of stage 1.0 (test environment construction), stage 2.0 (small-scale deployment), stage 3.0 (scale deployment and scenario expansion), and stage 4.0 (promotion and scenario optimization), it will gradually expand to Beijing after a mature model is formed. Copy promotion in other regions.

At present, Beijing has launched Phase 1.0 construction, deploying intelligent infrastructure of 10 kilometers of urban roads, 10 kilometers of expressways and 1 AVP parking lot. Through small-scale, multi-scenario, and differentiated deployment of roadside intelligent facilities and V2X communication networks, the cloud control basic platform will be built in a unified manner, the preliminary verification of key technologies of network-connected cloud control will be completed, and the optimal combination of vehicle-end perception and road-end perception systems will be explored. Coupling scheme; explore the hardware reuse of network-connected autonomous driving and traffic management transportation system; provide a test platform for enterprise product testing and iteration.
