Infineon SiC PowerMax

Infineon has introduced the CIPOS Maxi IPM IM828-XCC, the industry’s first 1200V Silicon Carbide (SiC) integrated power module (IPM) using transfer mold packaging technology.

This series provides a compact variable frequency solution for three-phase AC motors and permanent magnet motors in variable frequency drive applications, featuring excellent thermal performance and fast switching characteristics.

Specific applications include industrial motor drives, pump drives, fan drives, drones, and active power factor correction (PFC) for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The CIPOS Maxi IPM integrates improved 6-channel 1200V insulated gate drivers and six CoolSiC MOSFETs to enhance system reliability while optimizing PCB size and system cost.

This new family member comes in a DIP 36x23D package, making it the smallest package for 1200V IPMs with the highest power density and best performance in its class.

The IM828 series features an isolated dual in-line package with outstanding thermal performance and electrical isolation, meeting stringent EMI design and overload protection requirements.

The robust 6-channel SOI gate driver in the SiC IPM includes built-in dead-time to prevent transient damage. It also offers under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and overcurrent shutdown protection on all channels, providing high design flexibility with its multifunction pins.

In addition to its protective features, the IPM is equipped with independent UL-certified temperature-sensitive resistors. Three-phase independent emitter pins are available for monitoring phase currents, making the device easy to control.
