Next-generation IoT systems require large current drive from small size batteries to support advanced features such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. Device limitations force developers to make comprehensive trade-offs, either limiting functionality, shortening battery life or increasing solution size. Three new high-efficiency power ICs in Maxim’s basic analog product line help alleviate this dilemma with industry-leading lowest quiescent current and smallest solution size.

MAX17227A: For battery-powered IoT systems that require a boost power supply, the MAX17227A provides the highest output power with the lowest quiescent current. The device is capable of producing up to 2A of switching current, twice that of the closest competing solution. The quiescent current consumption is only 350nA, which is half of competing solutions. The nanoPower boost converter features short-circuit protection and true shutdown, and can support an input voltage range of 400mV to 5.5V, extending battery life by more than 10%.

MAX17291: The MAX17291 provides boost output voltages up to 20V, 80% lower quiescent current and 60% smaller solution size than the closest competitor. This boost converter is ideal for battery-powered systems where loads such as displays or sensors require higher supply voltages.

MAX38911: The MAX38911 500mA LDO is up to 50% smaller than the nearest competitor for battery-powered IoT systems, and consumes only 19µA in idle mode, extending battery life by up to 10%. The device features the industry’s best power supply rejection ratio (PSRR), a 16dB improvement over the nearest competitor, helping to protect critical functions such as high-precision measurement and communication circuits from noisy power supplies.
