TDK launches new process sensor for industrial automation control

Posted on: 05/01/2022

Automation equipment needs to monitor various parameters of the control module controlled by the equipment and the surrounding environment. The most basic temperature and pressure monitoring will become a common trend. For example, the temperature monitoring of the control main chip, IGBT, MOSFET, and diode can prevent the function failure of the main core Electronic components due to the continuous increase of the operating temperature during the continuous operation.

As the most cost-effective temperature protection component, NTC thermistor can continuously provide peripheral temperature data monitoring. When the temperature reaches the critical point set by the control module, the protection system of the equipment is activated to reduce the temperature of the equipment. In industrial equipment applications, power modules and various control boards use this mode. The pressure sensor has also become an indispensable key component in industrial automation, such as: monitoring the pressure of gas and fluid in the operation of the equipment, so as to promote the operation of the equipment more smoothly.

Based on the improvement of industrial automation control accuracy, the requirements for the temperature sensor’s operating temperature range, accuracy, and reliability are getting higher and higher. TDK has launched a series of new products to meet market requirements.

The EPCOS S860 series is based on the technology and process of ceramic chips, with a temperature deviation of 2°C at a temperature of 120°C, and is suitable for chip packaging of IGBTs. Encapsulating the thermistor in the IGBT ensures that the IGBT module operates normally under the highest power conditions. EPCOS M703 series, with working temperature range from -55℃ to 150℃, can meet the requirements of double 85. This series of products are suitable for photovoltaic inverters and industrial control modules, and are also very suitable for OBC/DC-DC modules in new energy vehicles.

3D printing is developing rapidly nowadays. Because of the application of high-temperature new materials, the temperature of the heating system and the nozzle exceeds 300 ℃, the ordinary thermistor can no longer meet the high temperature requirements. TDK’s EPCOS temperature sensor with a maximum operating temperature of 650°C can meet such needs very well, and this product is also suitable for the automotive industry.

The pressure control of the fluid by the pressure sensor causes the medium to contact the body of the chip. In order to protect the chip, TDK has launched the miniaturized EPCOS oil-filled pressure sensor MiniCell, which encapsulates the pressure chip with a stainless steel diaphragm, preventing damage to the chip by corrosive media.

The traditional pressure chip is fixed on the base by glue, but because different customers choose different glue models and the material of the base itself, it will affect the use and measurement accuracy of the chip. In order to solve such problems, TDK has introduced gold plating on the back of the chip and gold plating on the pads. Customers can directly use the form of mounting to fix the pressure chip, which solves the problem of customer installation.
