EMI shielding gaskets are not restricted to rectangular profiles

To be constructed from an electrically conductive nickel-plated copper polyester taffeta weave fabric wrapped around open-cell silicone foam, the profiles will be branded Soft-Shield 3800, and will be an extension of the rectangular profiles in the Soft-Shield 3700 series (see image).

“This product typically requires less than 80g/mm of closure force for effective electrical contact. It also takes less than 10% compression set, delivering reliable and repeatable shielding performance,” said Chomerics marketing manager Ben Nudelman, who claims that it represents “a first-class shielding and grounding alternative to traditional spring finger type products”.

So far, the profiles to be offered do not appear to have been announced. Electronics weekly has requested this information, so watch this space.

Construction is said to be abrasive and shear resistant, and 100dB shielding effectiveness is claimed across 20MHz to 10GHz.

The product will be offered in bulk or cut-to-length, with conductive or non-conductive pressure sensitive adhesive, or without adhesive, and custom profiles can be made.

Flammability rating will be UL 94 V-0, said Chomerics, and the gaskets will be RoHS and REACH-compliant.

Applications are foreseen in servers, enclosures, door seals, EMI windows and around vents.
