Stellantis contracts for auto ICs worth $11bn

“We have hundreds of very different semiconductors in our cars,” says Maxime Picat, Stellantis’ chief purchasing and supply chain officer, “we have built a comprehensive ecosystem to mitigate the risk that one missing chip can stop our lines.”

The company says that itbexpects new shortages of EV ICs to appear. It  says it is working with Infineon, NXP, onsemi and Qualcomm on technology development.

Earlier this month, Stellantis said it had received the offer of an $11 billion subsidy from Canada to resume building an EV battery plant in the country. In May, Stellantis had halted work on the site to demand a bigger subsidy offer.

Stellantis is the world’s fourth biggest car naker with sales of $180 billion last year and operating profit of $20 billion. The brands it makes are: Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Mopar, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall.
