ispace goes public to boost lunar transportation services

In December last year ispace launched its first lunar lander, the HAKUTO-R M1 (pictured), with the stated aim of making the Earth and the Moon “a unified ecosystem”, and it hopes the listing will increase its global investment.

The lander is due to arrive on the Moon before the end of April (right), and 12 April 2023 is the date set for the launch of share trading.

Infrastructure

In its announcement, the Tokyo-based company writes:

“ispace seeks to lead the world in constructing important infrastructure that will serve as the backbone of this ecosystem, and believes that this infrastructure will be essential for making the Earth a sustainable place where humans can live prosperous lives for many years to come.”

You can see ispace on the “New Listings” page on the Japan Exchange Group website and financial details of the listing itself can be found here. For example, it will be offering 24.7 million shares for trading and lists its capital as JPY93 million (as of 8 March 2023).

The auditor will be KPMG AZSA, with SMBC Nikko Securities underwriting the offering.

Life on Moon

On its website, iSpace declares:

“Our vision is to expand our living sphere and create a sustainable world…The Moon’s water resources represent untapped potential. Our aspiration is to explore and develop these water resources and spearhead a space-based economy.”

“We believe that by 2040 the Moon will support a population of 1,000, with 10,000 people visiting every year. ispace will be instrumental in supporting life on Earth through space-based infrastructure.”
