It can be predicted from the recent market trends that full-array local dimming (FALD, Full Array Local Dimming) mini-LEDs will become the mainstream technology for LCD Display backlights. And Macroblock Technology has been actively deploying here two years ago, launching suitable solutions for LCD monitors of different sizes, and working with customers to bring better display effects to consumers.

Actively enter the mini-LED backlight market Macroblock launches solutions for LCD Displays of various sizes

The following is a description of the backlight chip and system architecture of the medium and small size LCD display and the medium and large size LCD display:

Macroblock launches suitable backlight solutions for LCD displays of different sizes

Medium and small size LCD display

Recommended chips: Macroblock has launched mini-LED backlight driver chips MBI6322 and MBI6334 for small and medium-sized LCD displays such as laptops and tablets. MBI6322 has high integration characteristics and integrates the scan switch (MOSFET) inside the chip; MBI6334 is It uses a long BGA package, which is especially suitable for narrow Circuit boards. Therefore, the two backlight driver chips MBI6322 and MBI6334 can meet the design needs of small and medium-sized LCD displays. In addition, MBI6322 and MBI6334 do not need to process the dimming signal of the mini-LED backlight board through a microcontroller, and can be directly matched with a commercially available timing control chip (T-con IC) or bridge chip (Bridge IC) to maintain medium and small Design requirements for size LCD displays.

System design: If the medium and small size LCD display adopts a full matrix area dimming backlight structure, the front-end signal will be received by the timing control chip (T-con IC) or bridge chip (Bridge IC), and then the timing control logic and area The dimming data is transmitted in two paths. From the figure below, the first blue path is to pass the timing control logic to the LCD driver chip, and then to control the LCD panel; the second orange path is to transmit the area dimming data to the mini-LED backlight driver chip. And then control the mini-LED backlight board.

Medium and large size LCD display

Recommended chips: Macroblock has launched mini-LED backlight driver chips MBI6353 and MBI6328 for medium and large-size LCD displays such as TVs, public displays, screens, etc. MBI6353 has high current characteristics and can be applied to LEDs with a large number of parallel connections; MBI6328 has high voltage characteristics and can be applied to LEDs with a large number of series connections. Because of factors such as design flexibility and functional requirements, most of the devices of this type of medium and large-size LCD monitors will use “microcontrollers”. Now there are microcontrollers on the market that can be matched with MBI6353 and MBI6328, such as Nuvoton M484 .

System design: If the medium and large size LCD display adopts a full matrix area dimming backlight architecture, the front-end signal will be received by the screen control chip (MNT SoC) or TV control chip (TV SoC), and then the timing control logic and area adjustment The optical data is transmitted in two paths. From the figure below, the first blue path is to pass the timing control logic to the LCD driver chip to control the LCD panel; the second orange path is to first transmit the area dimming data to the “microcontroller”. The “microcontroller” is then passed to the mini-LED backlight driver chip to control the mini-LED backlight board.

Medium and large size LCD display architecture

Macroblock is quite optimistic that the full-matrix area dimming mini-LED will become the mainstream technology of LCD display backlights in the near future. The company will continue to invest in the planning and development of the mini-LED backlight driver chip product line and provide customers with rich solutions. To meet the different development and application of customers, we hope to bring an excellent visual experience to end consumers.
