NEC NL8048BC24-01 and NEC NL8048BC19-02 LCD displays

Posted on: 04/15/2025

The NEC NL8048BC24-01 and NEC NL8048BC19-02 LCD displays are designed for industrial applications, offering robust performance and reliability. However, they cater to slightly different use cases due to differences in size, resolution, and key specifications.

NEC NL8048BC24-01 Overview

The NEC NL8048BC24-01 is a 9.0-inch TFT-LCD display specifically designed for industrial environments. With a resolution of 800 x 480 (WVGA), it delivers clear images through a vertically aligned RGB stripe pixel arrangement. Its brightness stands at 400 cd/m². This display offers wide viewing angles (80°/80°/80°/60°), ensuring excellent visibility from multiple directions, and a fast response time of 6 ms, which reduces motion blur in dynamic content.

Durability is a major selling point of this display, as it is designed to function in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 70°C, with storage temperatures ranging from -30°C to 80°C. The backlight consists of two cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) with a lifespan of 50,000 hours, ensuring long-term usage in demanding environments(Shunlongwei).

The power consumption of the NL8048BC24-01 is typical for industrial displays at around 5.8W, and it requires a 3.3V power supply. Its signal interface is LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) with a 20-pin connector, supporting 6/8-bit color depth

NEC NL8048BC19-02 Overview

The NEC NL8048BC19-02, on the other hand, is a smaller 7.0-inch TFT-LCD panel with the same resolution of 800 x 480. Despite being smaller, it also delivers clear images through a vertically aligned RGB stripe pixel arrangement. The brightness of this display is slightly lower, at 350 cd/m², while the contrast ratio is also 600:1.

In terms of durability, the NL8048BC19-02 operates over a similar temperature range (-20°C to 70°C) and uses a similar CCFL backlight system with a 50,000-hour lifespan. The response time is 25 ms, which is slower compared to the NL8048BC24-01, making it less ideal for fast-moving visual content. However, it is still well-suited for static and semi-dynamic industrial displays.

It also uses an LVDS interface for signal transmission and a 20-pin connector, similar to the larger NL8048BC24-01.

Key Differences and Applications

While both displays have similar resolutions, there are notable differences in their specifications:

  1. Size: The most obvious difference is in screen size. The NL8048BC24-01 is a 9.0-inch display, while the NL8048BC19-02 is a 7.0-inch display. The larger size of the NL8048BC24-01 offers more screen real estate, making it better suited for applications where detailed visualization is crucial, such as control panels and diagnostic equipment. The NL8048BC19-02, being smaller, is more appropriate for compact devices where space is limited.
  2. Brightness: The NL8048BC24-01 has a higher brightness level (400 cd/m²) compared to the NL8048BC19-02 (350 cd/m²). This makes the former more suitable for outdoor or bright environments where higher brightness is necessary for visibility.
  3. Response Time: The NL8048BC24-01 has a significantly faster response time (6 ms), which is ideal for applications that involve dynamic content, such as video playback or real-time data monitoring. The slower response time of the NL8048BC19-02 (25 ms) limits it to more static content applications.
  4. Viewing Angles: Both displays offer wide viewing angles, but the NL8048BC24-01 edges out slightly with better viewing angles horizontally (80°/80°/80°/60°), making it ideal for collaborative environments where multiple users may need to view the display from different angles.
  5. Weight: The NL8048BC19-02 is lighter and more compact, making it easier to integrate into smaller devices or enclosures. This advantage is important in applications where weight and space are critical factors.
  6. Power Consumption: The power consumption of both displays is relatively similar, but the NL8048BC24-01’s larger size means it consumes slightly more power. This may be a consideration for battery-operated devices where power efficiency is critical.

Which One Should You Choose?

Choosing between these two models largely depends on your specific needs:

  • Choose the NEC NL8048BC24-01 if:
    • You need a larger screen for better readability and visualization.
    • You require a display with higher brightness for outdoor or brightly lit environments.
    • Fast response times are important, such as for video or real-time data applications.
    • The application allows for a slightly larger and heavier display.
  • Choose the NEC NL8048BC19-02 if:
    • Your application is more compact and space is a constraint.
    • You don’t need as much brightness or fast response times, and the content on the screen will be more static.

In conclusion, both displays offer excellent performance for industrial environments but cater to different needs. The NL8048BC24-01 is best for applications that require a larger, brighter display with fast response times, while the NL8048BC19-02 is more suited for smaller devices or where space and weight are limited. Understanding your specific requirements will help you make the right choice between the two.
